With a successful U.S. Supreme Court argument and dozens of jury trials under her belt, Debbie brings an unusual depth of experience to our business litigation department.  She handles a wide variety of contractual and tort issues for a diverse array of clients.  She has defended numerous companies and small businesses in cases involving personal injury, professional negligence, breach of contract, insurance coverage, constitutional law, and other claims.

Debbie’s experience includes seven years as a federal prosecutor in western North Carolina, where she prosecuted crimes ranging from child abuse to drug trafficking to murder.  She received numerous citations, and was lead counsel in several precedent-setting appellate cases. She also has worked with non-profit legal groups, culminating in a successful argument in Northeastern Florida Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America v. City of Jacksonville, 508 U.S. 656 (1993).

Debbie has developed a strong practice representing day care centers, camps, schools, youth mentoring organizations, nursing homes, mental health professionals and other care providers. She is a frequent speaker at seminars addressing the legal system and abuse issues.   Her blog, www.youthserviceslitigation.com, is one of the premier resources for youth-serving organizations.

Debbie also is active in the community, having served as a foster parent and Board member for numerous non-profit groups. In 2005, Governor Perdue appointed Debbie to the governing board of the Georgia Department of Human Resources.

Debbie received her J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law, where she served on the Editorial and Managing Boards of the Georgia Law Review.  She also authored a Student Note for the law review, and was elected to the Order of the Coif.  She clerked for the Hon. J.L. Edmondson, Chief Judge of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and is licensed to practice law in Georgia and North Carolina.
