Education
John Parkerson offers FSB clients broad experience in international law, trade and commerce, and diplomacy. He brings 30 years of hands-on international legal, business, and policy experience as in-house legal counsel in the multinational corporate and governmental environments. For 15 years prior to joining FSB Legal Counsel, Mr. Parkerson was part of the International practice group within the Law Department of Delta Air Lines where, during his tenure, the company accomplished the most aggressive international business expansion of any airline in aviation history. Mr. Parkerson worked as an integral member of the senior corporate management team, advising with regard to all legal aspects of Delta’s international strategy. In his international counsel role, he dealt with outbound legal issues ranging from foreign labor and employment issues to international aviation liability and anti-trust, as well as a variety of foreign corporate, regulatory, marketing and related business transactions. Prior to joining Delta, Mr. Parkerson served in a variety of international law military assignments, including Chief of the International Law Branch in the Office of The Judge Advocate General (“JAG”), The Pentagon; Associate Professor of Law at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point; U.S. Forces Europe legal liaison at the U.S. Embassy, Bonn; and international legal advisor at the U.S. Army’s European headquarters in Heidelberg. In May of 2007, Mr. Parkerson was appointed by the Government of Hungary as its Honorary Consul for Georgia, Tennessee and the Carolinas; a role in which his diplomatic skills complement his thorough understanding of international law, trade, and commerce. In addition to his private law practice and consular responsibilities, Mr. Parkerson also serves as Director of International Programs for Clayton State University and as Professor of International Management in its School of Business. Mr. Parkerson has served as the Chair, International Transactions Section of the Atlanta Bar Association and remains on its Board; and he currently serves on the Board of the International Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia; as well as on the Advisory Board of the ABA Rule of Law Initiative for Central Europe/Eurasia–Middle East/North Africa. He also presently serves on numerous non-profit Boards, among them the World Trade Center-Atlanta; the Georgia Council for International Visitors; Secretary, The Tropics Foundation/Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center; International Partners Council of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce; and the International Promotions Council of the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce. He is a Trustee and Past Chair, Clayton State University Foundation; and a Board Member of Georgia State University’s Center for Global Business Leadership. In 2001, the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce awarded Mr. Parkerson “International Business Person of the Year”; and he was a 2006 finalist for the “Governor’s Award for Individual Contribution to the International Community”. Mr. Parkerson is admitted to practice before all Georgia courts and the U.S. Supreme Court. |
